Beta Fish

Last week Friday we went to check on our fish but we ended up doing more than check on it. It was "fine" I think but anyway, we ended up looking at other fishes and we found out that the female fishes are much friendlier than the male fish. If you put your finger on the tank (female beta fish) the fish swims towards your finger and when you move your finger around the fish moves with it whereas if you put your finger on the male's "tank"(jar) it gets "shocked" and swim to the opposite direction. We also observed how the male beta fishs' water is changed and it was quite disgusting. An interesting fact that Ms Gwen told us, which we still find hard to believe, is that the fishs' stomack is as big as its one eye so when you feed the male beta fish you should look at its eye then break the food down to the size as small as its eye.
So yeah, fishes are quite difficult to look after and if you're a lazy person don't get a fish as a pet becasue then it's going to die faster than it will take you to study ESC.
How the water is changed. She sucks the water out via the pipe and when the water is half way she blocks it, puts it into the bucked than takes her finger off to let the water flow into the bucket, The black thing inside the jar automatically measures how much water must flow out so when the right amount is out the water stops flowing out.

She used that to pour fresh water back in

The worlds a desert

SHOCKING to see that 2/3 of the world is becoming a desert.

I'm against culling and am saddened at the fact that 40 000 elephants had to die in vein because it didn't solve the problem.

However this video has taught me that NATURE KNOWS BEST and that we only need to look and learn from the past to solve current problems of our environment instead of making hasty decisions that get elephants killed.

PIGGY IN THE MIDDLE

It was such an enlightening video who knew pigs had so many uses and for the most unlikely things at that. The information from the HOW PIG PARTS MAKE THE WORLD TURN video hit me as hard as the fact that we've been eating donkey meat and we didn't even know it. Proof yet again that we don't anything about the food we consume and that's scary.

Personally I love pig meat, bacon and eggs for breakfast is one of my favourite meals. However for some it is taboo to eat pigs like muslims and I wonder how my muslim friends would feel if they knew so much of the food we love has traces of pig in them. I guess ignorance is bliss.

The most interesting to me was that a pigs heart can be implanted into a human heart without open heart surgery and acts as a heart valve.

So I looked up abit on the Environmental and economic impact of invasive tree species heres what I found:
-reduction in stream flow and available water;
-loss of potentially productive land;
-loss of grazing potential;
-poisoning of humans and livestock
-increasing costs of fire protection and increasing damage in wildfires;
-increasing soil erosion following fires in heavily invaded areas;
-siltation of dams;
-changing soil nutrient status;
-loss of biological diversity and threat to native plant species;
-changing biomass of ecosystems;
-changing habitat suitability for native animal species; and
-hybridization with local related genera ,thus exchanging genes.

Steak and Chops Seasoning bottle

This is a picture of a Steak and Chops Seasoning bottle.It was made from thee recyclable material namely glass and two types of plastic. The cap is made of polypropylene(PP) plastic, the sleeve from polyethlyene(PET) plastic and the bottle is made from clear glass(GLS).

My Plant

Greetings to you all. So like I keep on forgeting that I have a plant but the first day I received it it was the same colour, soft and beautiful. Washing the sand out was a struggle but I finally got it right I think. The first 3 days it was fine and in good condition. It than started slowly loosing leaves. It started with 2 leaves. It was not soft anymore and the water had evaporated  so I poured cold water(out of the fridge) on it because because the little water that was left was hot and I wanted to keep my plant cool. As time went by my plant lost more leaves and some leaves changed colour. There's a few new shoots though and that's about the only good thing my plant experienced since it's been in my room.
Since i was given a green plant  to monitor at home, then i removed the soil which was in it and i did put it on a water jar to see what are the changes heres what i abserved: Starting with the roots they turn more white and they are growing tall. The leaves are constantly green accept for the fact that they are dying and most of them have brown dots as you can see to the picture below.
the shoots are slowly growingbut theres no flower popping out  and the is no much growth.
my plant is really not growing in the way i expected, i can only say that it is getting there. the first time i had to take it home i never knew that one day i will have a solid relationship with it...the removal of the soil from the plant is one of the hardest things about the plant that gave me a negative attitude with the plant, but now that there is no soil anymore everything is perfect. everyday when i have to take my plant to a place where there is sunlight there are falling leaves. my plant was 6cm tall and now it is 20cm tall with 8cm flowers around it. there are shoots growing each and every day, with purple shoots and dying leaves.

Sunday 7 April 2013

So I took home a green flower and for interest sake took a picture of it on the first day just after placing it into water. This is how it looked.Now I must admit it took me forever to clean the roots completely from a tangled ball of sand to what they look like on the picture. The roots are short and still tangled, the water is clean for obvious reasons and the leaves are quite green.
Now a few weeks have passed till this very day and alot of changes have taken place that set the orginal state of the plant apart from what it is now. Take a look at how it looks now.

The roots have grown so much.I refrained from adding or changing water until I woke up one day and someone had filled the jar to the top with water.I suppose my mother did so. At first I was really frustrated as I thought this would interfere with my control as it would'nt demonstrae the true quantity of water used up by my plant, which is true but I reasoned that eventually I'd need to add more water as the plant uses it up. The new shoots grow to be more pale compared to the original leaf colour and that was the first thing I noticed. As for the behaviour of the plant, if there is such a phenomenon, when the sun is basking through the window onto the jar the roots appear to be much straighter and then they'll losen up during the night.Strange.The leaves die really quickley and just fall away. There are flowers now, but they are'nt all that appealing but how else would they reach they full potential when they are not getting the required nutrients.

my recyclabe material

The plastic container that i have selected can be converted into variuos material that can be useful again. it has pp and 5 in the triangle arrows which basically proves that it is recyclable. thanks
